Great Location In Sarajevo Jul 06, 2010
While looking for somewhere to stay in Sarajevo, had primarily gone for the Motel Seher because of it's location.
Set right in the Old Town it was a great base for getting out and about and seeing things. Less than a 5 minute walk up the hill from where the trams terminate in Bascarsija, just up from the Sebjil Fountain .
Easy to find, and you just got the feeling the minute you walked in that it was going to be a good place to stay. The guy at reception, the owner as it turned out, was really pleasant and chatty and there was no fussing about. Finally as well a place in Bosnia that accepted credit and debit cards.
We had two rooms, and although they were on seperate floors, it wasn't a big issue as the hotel is really quite small, possibly just 10 or 12 rooms.
The rooms are furnished basically, but have almost everything you need, except a fridge ( I know I'm always going on about that now :D ).The free wifi works in all the rooms as well, and they have satellite TV to watch, if you are ever in the room long enough.
They did have a list of do's and don'ts for guests, most of which would just be seen as common courtesy for other guests, but they don't like you doing any washing of clothes in the room. They do have a big laundry room next to the reception if you are needing anything done though.
On our first venture out, they stopped us and gave us a couple of maps and recommendations of where to head and restaurants to try, but not in a pushy way, more a genuine want to make sure you saw the best of the city.
Only a short walk to all the main sights, and easy enough to find your way to the tourist information office, where most visitors head to find out the basics for seeing Sarajjevo.
The door was shut from 11pm, but there was someone on reception all night, a really nice guy, who one he found out I supported Rangers only ever wanted to talk about one of our players, the Bosnian international Sasa Papac :D
There were 3 small supermarkets nearby, one in the square across from the Sebjil, and two on the road up to the hotel from the tram stop.
The location was ideal for going out at night, as there are loads of restaurants in the Bascarsija, and it meant we never had to go far.
Breakfast was included each morning, and ws OK the first day, and really good the second day, one the guy was doing it and the other his wife was making it, so I'll let you guess ;)
Third morning we didn't have time as we were leaving at just after 6am, but the guy who was doing the night reception was great and got us a taxi to take us to the bus staion.
May be a bit basic for some people, but I'm really glad we chose to stay there in the middle of the old town, rather than in one of the newer hotels in the business district.
