Not your average burger Mar 21, 2009
Mos Burger is a Japanese burger chain with several locations around Yokosuka.

To make a comparison: Mos Burger is to your average American hamburger what American "sushi rolls" is to the authentic kind.

Their burgers are definitely good, but more of a creative take on the "hamburger." I had a seafood and tempura vegetable "rice burger," which consisted of fried up scallops, shrimp, carrots and edemame sandwich between two teriyaki grilled rice patties. Yum! My husband had the teriyaki grilled vegetable and seaweed rice burger and a teriyaki burger. Everything was super tasty, but we both agreed the seafood and tepura vegatble rice burger was the best. Their fries have a thicker cut than McDonalds (which makes me happy), and they have crunchy/fluffy/delicious onion rings as well.

Plus, unlike a lot Japanese fast food places, you can order a wide variety of drinks like sodas, milkshakes, coffee drinks, tea, and soda-floats.

Also on the menu are hot dogs, spicy burgers, clam and potato burgers, fried chicken, salads, soups, deserts, and a variety of things that I have no idea what they are. Prices are about average for Japanese fast food, about 600-1000yen.

Japan's Fine Burger Mar 21, 2005
While in Japan I had to try Japan's own domestic burger chain, Mos Burger. This one, in Minato-ku, seemed typical. It's a familiar-looking fast-food counter service restaurant. Patrons order and pay at the counter. That was a challenge to a non-Japanese speaker, as the menu is mainly in Japanese. But, there are pictures, so I was able to communicate what I wanted, a cheeseburger. The staff were very accommodating to visitors from abroad.

The burger itself is smaller that one would find in the USA. But it was very fresh and tasty! I ordered a "set" (combo meal) with a salad and drink. I found it interesting that typical sets were with a salad (salad set), though French fries were available.

There are other types of burgers, too, such as rice burgers or ones with an egg.

Recommended for something familiar and at the same time different!
