Morgantown Vacation Guide

Morgantown, home of West Virginia University, is the county seat of Monongalia County, West Virginia. It was founded in the 1760s by Zackquill Morgan, son of Morgan Morgan.

Morgantown is known throughout the state as a college town, and much of its personality stems from that fame. Morgantown becomes alive on football and basketball game days as thousands of fans stream into the city from I-79 or I-68 to see their beloved Mountaineers play. Aside from athletics, various other cultural events take place throughout the year, mainly sponsored and/or sanctioned by the university.

A multitude of new shopping centers, hotels and restaurants have surfaced all over town throughout the years, so dining options and overnight accommodations are abundant. Other attractions in the Morgantown area include Cheat Lake and Coopers Rock. As of January 2008, the Morgantown Municipal Airport is running commercial flights into Dulles International Airport three times a day Mon.- Fri. with two flights on Sat. and Sun. There are four arrival flights daily. This is a much needed improvement as previously you could only fly into Pittsburgh, PA and would have to drive to Morgantown.
