Mordecai Historic Park Reviews

Mordecai Historic Park Jun 06, 2008
This park is located on a former plantation that was owned by Joel Lane who donated his land for the city of Raleigh. The house on this property was built in 1785 which makes this the oldest house in Raleigh on its original foundation. The land around this house was originally a plantation that was a large as 5000 acres. Most of the buildings on this property were unfortunately built using slave labor. Also on this property is the building that Andrew Johnson (17th US president) was said to be born in. The original location of this building was on Fayetteville st and has subsequently been moved 5 times.
The park is open 24 hours a day. But you can only get guided tours during these hours Tuesday-Friday at 10am-4pm and Sunday 1pm-4pm. There are two different tours you can take. The full tour ($5) and the house tour ($3). I suggest the full tour which lasts about an hour.
