The Canadian Rockies are well known for breathtaking sceneries. Among my personal favorites is Moraine Lake. This gem is located about 30 miles northwest of Banff in the Banff National Park. Or 10 miles south of Lake Louise. Just follow the sights from the Transcanada Highway.
Best time to go there in my opinion is the early morning - for several reasons. First there won't be many tourists around. The whole place is wonderfully quiet then. Second you can watch the sun slowly rising and flooding the valley and sea with light. And, I can tell you, the color of the lake is simply unbelievable! Of course it is best on sunny days. But even when it is cloudy the lake is "glowing" turquoise and blue-green. Third reason is that later in the day canoes appear on the water. Perhaps an option for you! Please note: There are also some interesting hikes in the Moraine lake area which are sometimes restricted due to Grizzly bear activity! |
