Moomia Lounge New York Reviews
Moomia- hookah lounge Aug 12, 2009
I went to Moomia for a birthday party recently, so this place could be good for events if any TBs needed to know about any possible settings for a meetup in NYC.
The decor is "Egyptian," the ceiling painted in a vibrant blue sky with white stars of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings...okay? haha a bit odd if you knew that tidbit but it looks pretty either way even if you did know that. There are some deep seated lounge seating and ottomans around. Apparently the decor is also a bit gaudy when the lights are not on nightlife setting...
The drinks are average priced for the area around 8+, and they are good cocktails. I didn't have any food but my friends say it's decent lounge food with the twist of being Japanese and not comfort food.
The hookah is none too weak but if you are looking for a place primarily for its hookah, better to look around Avenue A or B. The flavors are plentiful.
As for the music, they market themselves as a place for techno-music yet they played more hip-hop and 90s stuff. The music did not flow seamlessly but was fun stuff nonetheless.
Moomia can accommodate a good size crowd, as they also have a downstairs area. It didn't feel like an overwhelming huge club place nor hyper-stylish expensive bottle service sort of place.
Note: There usually is no cover before 11pm, also I arrived after 12:30AM and wasn't charged cover either.
