An Epitome of Tragic Event Apr 08, 2009
It is said that the site is also called "place of sacrifice" wherein all the Kalavryta's male populations aged 14 and above where executed by German troops on a single day, that is 13 December 1943.

Monument of the Holocaust therefore is a remarkable and very significant landmark commemorating that tragic killing happened in Kalavryta. The monument is located at Kapi Hill, some 500 meters away from Kalavryta town center. On the upper side of the slope stands a huge white cross. At the center part, there are wide pillars with all the names of those who have been executed on that day. There is also a half-buried catacomb, hanged with small lamps inside, which is said to be equal to the number of families who suffered the loss from this horrified event. Beside the catacomb, there is a sculpture of a desperate woman, a clear description of a mother in pain.

There are bold white characters "14 December 1943" laid on the ground which is clearly readable even from far apart.

It's often history attraction that inspires such a visit, but it is what Elie Wiesel calls "Paying Tribute" that is the end result. Good review of a place I didn't know about.
