Monument Valley Vacation Guide
Monument Valley is located near the Four Corners region of the US, on the Arizona/Utah border along US 163. It resides completely in the Navajo Indian Reservation. It is famous as a movie and television location. It has been featured in countless westerns, and used to portray the old west in other movies (Mission Impossible, Thelma & Louise, Air Wolf, MacGyver) and televison shows.
Just across the border on the Utah side is a small area called Gouldings. It was established as a trading post in 1923 and now has a lodge, restaurant, general store, gas station, campground and museum. There are many locals who give guided Jeep tours of the area, although you can drive the very rough, 17 mile, road, for the price of an access pass to the Tribal Park.
There are few full time residents, and other than Gouldings there are very little amenties nearby. The cities of Mexican Hat, UT and Kayenta, AZ are your nearest alternatives for gas, hotel and food.

How could we sleep? Rise and shine! Enter the valley again. Well, we did it. One more bumpy descent. The lighting was different and we very much enjoyed this trip. Stopped at John Ford Point, had a look at the totem pole and all the other fascinating rock formations. Incredible colours!
