This is one of the best film festivals in Montreal and is not to be missed if you're a fan of horror, sci-fi, martial arts, asian and international genres... a lot of weird and exciting stuff, not for the squeamish. Check the their website and facebook group.

I went to Montreal for New Years Eve this past year. By far, the best new years I've ever had.
I work in NYC and right away you can see the differences. Montreal is a very clean city. The people there are really nice as well. You know when you cross the street in NYC cars honk at you like crazy....

Nice bar where the dancing starts early! Gets really crowded though around midnight, a bit too crowded for me. No cover, but $2.50 for hanging your jacket. Not too bad I'd say. Drinks are ok priced: 4 gin tonics CAN$28, 4 Heineken + 4 shots = CAN$41. Nice music, very danceable!
