Presidential plantation home of Thomas Jefferson May 24, 2012
Monticello is the plantation and home of the third US president Thomas Jefferson who penned the Declaration of Independence. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site includes the University of Virginia which is located in Charlottesville, Virginia alongside Monticello. The university is considered one of the best in America for academia and has some impressive buildings in a Neoclassical style similar to Monticello. What makes Monticello unique is the layout and symmetry of the design as Jefferson himself was a skilled engineer. Monticello includes a number of outbuildings and very nice functional gardens.
