Some advice if you visit the waterfall... Jan 10, 2013
I just wanted to follow on from hannahbonanner’s and ChicagoTravelers reviews which are both spot on descriptions of a wonderful place to visit.

I just thought I would go into a bit more details in terms of how to get to the second waterfall, we got a bit confused and it’s not completely obvious. If you face away from the first fall you will see a bit of a steep climb with lots of vines (almost a rock climb). If you make your way up there and head to the left, then towards the top if you keep an eye out you might see some pink ribbon like ties around trees. Follow these and it will lead you up and around the back of the falls. It’s not a difficult climb, nor is it easy and I would recommend perhaps not making my mistake in thinking flip flops/thongs can go anywhere.

I will say it’s well worth the effort, there are a lot more spots to jump from, big and small and also a rope swing. Keep an eye on the locals if they are around, they can point out if you have doubt where to jump from.

For the way back, don’t fret, no need to return the way you came. If you climb up the small fall then on the left you will see some steps going up, these will take you where you need to go.

Make the Jump , You won't regret it Jan 18, 2012
If you are ever in Montezuma you must hike up the stream to the waterfalls. The first fall is too high to jump off of but you can swim in it's pool and is a great photo op. The next falls will be a climb but when you get there it's all worth it. It may look like a scary jump when you look down but don't let fear cause you to miss a once in a lifetime chance. Just jump!

Good hike up the stream and over the hill and a great drop Apr 05, 2011
Head up the stream and through the woods to an awesome view, hike up a "little" further and take a look over the upper falls. It's a risky endeavor , so I've been told. I guess i just decided to ignore the fact that nobody else was jumping and take a leap of faith. Not a whole lot of time to think when falling that fast. Went pretty deep and came right back up. Then one after another the weenies at the top saw the test dummy made it and started to jump. Their only mistakes were..bikinis and the lack of clinched cheeks . ouch. Jump at your own risk and have a great time.

Montezuma waterfall Apr 21, 2010
This place was awesome! It was a tricky hike up a long river bed but the falls and the pool of water was worth it. We went on a rainy morning and we were the only 4 out there so that was pretty cool. Its about a 15 min rocky hike to the falls but it was fun and the pictures were well worth it. The water was kinda couldy that day as well but we still swam in it. Water felt great and you can even swim behind the waterfall and jump off the rocks. The town of Montezuma was my favorite of every city in Costa Rica.
