Hiking Montezuma Pass at Coronado National Memorial May 04, 2013
I needed some air, so I asked my husband to join me on a hike at Coronado National Memorial, where the Montezuma pass offers different trails for hikers. The pass is part of a memorial in honor of Coronado the Spanish explorer.
We hiked a 5 mile trail, 2.5 each way, with a minimal elevation gain. But as we are both in poor physical shape, we were panting out of breath by the time we got to the overlook at the top of the trail. The views are breath-taking, and the trails are well maintained. This is an easy trail, great for all levels of hiking.
At the bottom as one comes in to the memorial, there is a visitor's center, more like a memorial to Coronado's Spanish conquistadors. They have photos, sketches and drawings. A treasure chest that would peek the interest of any child.
It is a great place for family fun; hiking, picnicking or just touring the visitor center.
