Bring your bug spray! Jul 14, 2010
I stayed at the Montanita cabanas for a month while I studied at the Montanita Spanish and Surf school. After talking to a lot of other people in town about where they were staying, I would probably stay there again (or at Mama Ducha, a lot of people I know went there for stays longer than a month). It's quiet in comparison to all the places in town. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper though- roosters crowing and kids making noise way past typical bedtime woke me up on occasion. If you are studying at the Spanish school, they provide a great way to meet other students (if you want to speak in spanish outside of class, hang out with locals or do a homestay).

The biggest downside was the mosquitos. They seem to like Dutch people in particular, not sure why. As far as service goes, if you have a problem, like your hot water isn't working, they are usually quick to solve it. For some reason, they like to move people around like chess peices, which can be annoying after you have already settled into a room after two weeks and have two more to go.

The cabanas aren't directly in town, you have to cross a tiny bridge and go down a dark road to get there. That's the main reason why it is quiet, (except for Martes on the Mountain). Be aware that Montanita has it's fair share of shady characters and blackouts - bring a flashlight, and if you can, a friend when walking home in the dark.

Great Value, beautiful cabanas, clean. Excellent choice Jan 07, 2009
A real Gem!

Montanita has lots of loud music at night - and although this is only a 3 minute stroll to the centre - it is a quiet haven of peace and tranquillity!

The cabanas are stunning, the atmosphere superb.

Room are very clean.

A great garden with many relaxing hammock space.

Complete with swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

And - its VERY affordable. In my opinion by far the best place in town. I would have paid much more for this. For the price I was expecting average, and found a gem!
