Mont Blance: the highest summit of the Alps Jul 31, 2013
Mont Blanc, towering at 4,810 m (15,781 ft) known as the white mountain, the white one (il bianco) and the white lady (la dame blanche) is the highest summit of the european alps.

situated between the borders of france (haute-savoie) and italy (aosta), the sheer beauty and grandeur of the mountain had been translated into paintings, photographs and romantic poetries but on the otherside, the white mountain had claimed many lives of souls in the attempt to reach it's summit.

"Mont Blanc yet gleams on high: the power is there, The still and solemn power of many sights And many sounds, and much of life and death. In the long glare of day, the snows descend Upon that Mountain; none beholds them there, Nor when the flakes burn in the sinking sun, Or the sunbeams dart through them". Percy Bysshe Shelley

mont blanc is a part of a massif called the mont blanc massif with glaciated summits and aiguilles (needle) peaks towering and soaring above the valleys of chamonix (france) and cormayeur (italy) but mont blanc towers above them all making the other peaks looked like soldiers around a king beacue no other mountain around it comes close to its height.

apart from the summit of mont blanc, it is surrounded by satellite peaks and all of them have heavy glaciated tops such as:

mont blanc de courmayeur - 4,748 m (15,577 ft) (

picco luigi amedeo - 4,469 m (14,662 ft)

(of which both can only be seen on the italian side)

mont maudit - 4,465 m (14,649 ft)

dôme du goûter - 4,304 m (14,121 ft)

mont blanc du tacul - 4,248 m (13,937 ft)

aiguille de bionnassay - 4,052 m (13,294 ft)

apart from the satellite peaks, the mountain is covered by huge glaciers such as glacier des bossons, glacier de bionassay and glacier de taconnaz in the north face and vallée blanche located below the east face.

photographing mont blanc and it's satellite peaks are pure joy to me, they have certain characteristics thats different from one another from the thick glacier of the summit, to the ice wall of mont blanc du tacul, the ice dome of dôme du goûter and the spire of mont maudit gleaming and sparkling white in the midday sun and glowing in sunset are truly delights for my eyes and lens.
