Traditional and lively Irish Pub, Pizzeria and Late Bar Apr 18, 2012
If you are looking for a busy Irish Pub with Live music, then go to Monroes! Monroes Live has a really cool looking interior, reflecting an old style Irish pub with modern twists. It reminds me of the pub in ‘PS I Love You’ where she meets her Irish husband! They put on great events and attract a lot of people. Whether it is for matches or live music, Monroes is a great place to go to chill out and party!

It is located on the end corner of Dominick's Street, walk past Jury's Hotel further than the Spanish Arch and going away from Shop St. and turn right at Fine Wines and you'll see it straight ahead at the corner.

Go early and get a seat in the back tables or at the bar

Prices are the same as everywhere in Galway

Order an amazing pizza, prices are €9-€15

Stay late and go up to the new late bar/club upstairs

A sizable, traditional style pub just off Galway quays Jan 04, 2011
This is a good place to start your night with a quiet beer, as it has a nice atmosphere and a (slightly expensive) pizza restaurant on the side, from which you can order food to eat at the bar. There are a lot of booths but also a bar area that's good for meeting a few people to head to head out with. If you enjoy the more traditional side of Ireland, there's also plenty of historic signs plastered around the bar, and they regularly have musicians performing on a tiny stage in the corner (usually traditional and occasionally rock music). It's not really a place to be towards the end of the night - most people head across the road to the exceptional Roisin Dubh or back into the very heard of the city - but it certainly does the job as a quiet warm up. There's a very affordable hostel opposite, too, though I can't for the life of me remember the name. Have yourself a Galway Hooker while you're here (it's a beer, just to be clear!)
