Mono Wind Casino Auberry Reviews
Small and hidden but clean and quiet. Feb 21, 2011
Back in 1983 the state opened the door for the Indian tribes to open their own Casinos on their tribal lands around the state. The Mono Indians got together in 1990 and set up the Big Sandy Rancheria tribal headquarters which is a democratically governed body of five tribal members elected by the tribe. They set up a small casino and restaurant but were closed down by the county of Fresno in 2005. Today they are reopened and offer a ten thousand square foot gaming area with slot machines and a few tables. The restaurant offers several specials and receives pretty good reviews on their food and service.
We enjoy a little gambling from time to time and have recently joined. What we found was that it is about 3 miles from the very small community of Auberry, which is by itself 36 miles distance from Fresno in the foothills near the three thousand foot level. It takes almost three quarters of an hour to drive from Fresno up the two lane winding road to the property and the day we were there we saw fresh snow along the road and on cars that had been left overnight. And you need to really watch where you are. A GPS is helpful do to the small turnoffs and location of the casino well off the main road. The casino is small by every standard I can think of, and while we were there the slots were all that was in operation, no tables. That was probably because there probably weren’t more than twenty customers in the entire facility. But that kept the noise and smoke level very low, a strange but nice thing. The drinks, like coffee and soft drinks of several kinds are available for you to get yourself. The slots vary from penny, nickel, quarter, and dollar denominations and a few had updated capabilities so you could change the machine to your satisfaction. The employees were helpful and friendly and signed us up for their cards and wished us good luck. The layout is strange because they have added about a hundred more machines in a tent which connects to the main building. We didn’t win that day, but it did take us a while to lose, so we probably will return again. Besides, it is located only about fifteen miles from the largest Indian gaming Casino around.
