Comfortble hostel close to the Tallinn old town Mar 24, 2013
As with most hostels, there are aspects which you are likely to encounter and this for me is a perfect example of a well-run, low budget accommodation.

Located just a few minutes away from the freedom square, this is a comfortable and friendly hostel, which is not too hard to find along a cul de sac road.

We stayed there in early march for four nights and it was very cold outside, but in the hostel it was warm, which is especially important with the no-shoe policy of the hostel. I thought this was an unusual idea, but it added to the relaxed, homely feel and with the snow outside it was a good idea to leave the boots near the entrance and help in keeping the hostel clean.

Our room was directly opposite the communal room and I think if you would be looking for a quieter stay then perhaps ask for a room on the first level, although this was not a problem for us as we were going to be out during the evenings. The bunk beds were very comfy, large and strong with good mattresses. The windows were covered by coloured blinds and I am not sure the windows could open.

The room had reasonably size lockers and the room and whole hostel felt safe, but sometimes we came to the front door and it wasn't shut properly, so potentially anyone could enter and walk up to both levels of the hostel. When the door is shut, the reception will unlock via buzzer and I think there was a small camera.

The communal room was a reasonable size with a number of sofas, two computers, free wifi, bar and pool table. The kitchen was large and very well equipped which is impressive for a hostel. We did not use much in there as we wanted to eat out a lot, but there were many other guests using the kitchen and even large groups could prepare meals at once!

A small criticism is that there are only 3 separate single sex toilet/shower rooms and so in busy times you are likely to have to wait for either the shower or loo. The shower itself lacks some power, sometimes drifts temperatures and it's hard not to get your hair wet as the head is practically on the ceiling. However as with the rest of the hostel they were all always very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.
