Monkey Republic Reviews
Do Not Recommend!! Apr 18, 2009
So I didn't actually stay at Monkey Republic, it may have nice/clean rooms or an ok atmosphere.
This is why I do not recommend it. It is foreign owned by people who seem to have no respect for the local people. I dont care what the actual place is like but I have no tolerance for that. I came off the bus from Phenom Penh to Sihnouk Ville and typically bombarded by taxi drivers and hotel workers trying to get you to stay at a place. The foreign owner or worker at Monkey Republic was there making a scene. Since he speaks English he has an advantage and persuading tourists to come to his hotel. He was talking shit about all the Khmer people and places because he wanted everyone to stay at Monkey Republic. I agreed to get a taxi for one dollar into town and the driver said he knew a place for $5 a night and the foreign owner of Monkey Republic interrupted calling him a liar and a bullshitter and do not believe what any of them tell me. It was the Khmer new year so yes some places prices went up for the holiday. Then he went into yelling at all th taxi drivers. Well all I am saying is that is an awful way to promote business and he should promote business in a more respectful way. He seemed to have no consideration for the local people. By the way I did find a place for $5 a night, it was right on the beach and had a restaurant and bar attached. So my taxi driver wasnt bullshitting. |

Lively and homely place to stay Aug 19, 2008
This is an English owned guesthouse and pub. There is a very good atmosphere here and the food is good. The staff are very friendly and it is an easy place to meet other people. It is very well located a short walk from the beach and near all the local amenities such as restaurants, little cinema (which is amazing - you have to go there to see what I mean!), Internet cafe with high speed connection, diving centres.

We get to the Monkey Republic (via moto, scary shit!), check in, get a free beer, some food, then drink all night. Jameson and Coke, $1.50, Beer $0.75! Silly....and it's a tab too, so we are going to get stung! Oh well.... The rooms are pretty much… Chillaxing time.... |

The guesthouse we are staying at 'Monkey Republic' is great, also has an excellent menu and nice guys that run it. One thing I would say though is that the toilet flush system is a bucket by the loo to be filled with water and then poured down to flush your… Sihanoukville, Cambodia 3rd to 5th February 2008 |
