Monkey Bar Koh Lipe Reviews
Live with the Locals at Monkey Bar Dec 20, 2009
Monkey Bar was pretty great. My first night was a bit rough; it was an adjustment to living without plumbing and bathing by splashing myself with a bucket. The bungalows are open to the air and the island's creatures, and come equipped with a mosquito net, a fan, and a mattress (with clean sheets) on the floor. But once you embrace the whole living minimally on the beach thing, it's a good little spot.
Monkey Bar is predominantly a bar and restaurant (hence the name), and is in a great location, about midway along Pattaya Beach on Lipe. It's owned by a Chao Lay (the local sea gypsies/fishermen) family, and they are warm, friendly people who embrace you and make you feel at home. It's just one large bungalow split into three rooms. There is no phone or internet, so this is not a place you can reserve in advance. I don't think many people realize they rent rooms (nor would most tourists choose to live that way), so next time you're in the area it's worth popping by and inquiring. Very lovely people, would stay again in a heartbeat.
