Moscow, Russia -› Perm, Russia -› …
Our last day in Ulaanbaatar. And, in a way, also our first day, as during our previous visits to the city we didn't do much sightseeing (with the exception of our half-morning trip to the monastery). And while Ulaanbaatar is an ugly place, it certainly merits a visit.
But first we had to move hot…

It has been a lot of problems ever since we stared planning this Mongolia trip. Due to the short duration in Mongolia, we didn’t have much choice of picking the itinerary. We could either pick North Mongolia to the Khovsgul Lake or Southern Mongolia to Gobi desert. Of all the travel operators in …

People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip: Juliana (Russia)
We were stuck between Russia and Mongolia for 8 hours with little to do, to pass the time. Luckily this small kid, called Kolya, kept us entertained for a decent period of time! Sukhbaatar was also the start of Asia in my…

I arrived around 11 pm to my hostel. As the taxi drive around the capital, it was dark and bumpy. There are few lights here and there for hotels and restaurants. But the city was too dark. I thought my hotel is really far away from the center. As I got out, the taxi's assistant told me …

Woke up pretty early to catch a 8am train to Beijing. Spent most of the day doing the usual sleeping/eating/reading on the train. For some reason today dragged on. Being idle sucks.

The flight back to Ulaan Baatar was much less eventful that the flight out had been. As part of our organised tour we also had some sightseeing lined up in Ulaan Baatar.
We were taken on a trip to the Winter Palace - one of the former homes of the emperor and his wife. The palace is fairly small, …

This morning we left early from Ulaanbaatar Station on board the train for our final stop of the Trans Siberia Express: Beijing. It would take a bit longer then 24 hours before we reached China's capital city.
This time the tourguide stayed in my cabin for the night. Apparently something went wro…

I was fortunate enough to have to work in Mongolia for two and a half weeks. Primarily working in Ulaanbaatar, I got a chance to leave the city and check out the country side, or as the locals call it the real Mongolia. It is October/November and the tempatures are around -10 celsius to 5 celsius. …

I organized a 2-day tour from my guesthouse (Idre's Guesthouse), and took off for Terelj National Park with my guide, Tsarana, and my driver, Tumoor. We stopped at the humongous Turtle Rock formation, and walked over a seriously deteriorated wooden bridge, missing slats, rotted out,…

There are not words in the english language to describe the kind of cold here in the Mongolian winter. The numbers on the thermometer simply don't make sense, it has been -21 Farenheit (-30 C) this week. The human body doesn't really 'feel' these temperatures, it's only when you get bac…

The Elstei camp was in the middle of nowhere but had been set up specifically for tourists, so again not quite the full traditional experience we expected. There was running hot water, flushing toilets and a small restaurant/bar. Definitely not something worth complaining about because …
