The National park of Monfrague covers 17852ha streaching along the river Tagus and surrounded by large extents of oak covered parkland.This provides shelter for Mediterranean wildlife. Due to its well preserved woodland and scrubs and to the presence of endangered fauna Monfrague National Park is one of the best place for nature lovers in Europe.
This park now a days a true sanctuary for birdwatchers.Among birds Griffon Vultures are the most abundant although it can be easy to see Black and Egyptian Vultures,Golden,Bonelli's,Booted and short-toed Eagles,Black and Red Kites,Eagle owls and Black Storks,Grey herons,Comarants and many other birds.
