Great sight - bad timing Oct 17, 1999
The day I saw this monastery my main destination was Nuria. I calculated that there would be time between trains to see it. That was correct but it was dinner time and the building was closed. Thus both the 5* rating and the 'Free' are a bit imaginative.

The monastery dates back to at least the 9th century - I have read the 6th but i am not sure about that. Anyway it has needed much restoration over the years, partly as a reslt of earthquakes.

There is still a significant amount of Romanesque architecture and the monastery stands as a proud sight.
