Momi Guns Sep 09, 2010
It was my brother's choice to go here, but I ended up really enjoying the visit too. The guns are located through cornfields and up a hill. We took a taxi. The man who looks after them greeted us at the entrance, we were his first visitors in 3 days. He was extremely friendly and talked to us (and our taxi driver who came along too!) throughout our visit, telling stories about things that happened during the war. They were built for World War II, and overlook Navula Passage, which is a large shipping entrance to Fiji and the main point they could have been attacked from. As they are up on a hill, there were some stunning views. I always find being in historical places interesting, and it made me think about the soliders being up there in the Fijian heat for days on end waiting for a possible attack. There were photos to look at too in the visitor's office. It's definitely worth a visit if you don't mind making the drive and you're interested in history!
