Great sushi in Bernal Heights Mar 10, 2007
This restaurant is located in the out of the way neighborhood of Bernal Heights. Beforehand, I heard the area was full of crack addicts and drug dealers. But once we reached Cortland Avenue, I saw a cute street full of interesting cafes, restaurants, boutiques and grocery stores. I think the real reason why people don't visit Bernal Heights is because the buses don't really go there, the streets are steep and narrow, and parking can be difficult. Once you find it, Moki's is a cute sushi restaurant with a great atmosphere and a bit of a Hawaiian flair.

They have all the basic sushi items as well as many creative rolls with creative names. They also have a variety of vegetarian options... there is a lot to choose from! Try the spicy papaya salad or the tuna mango spring roll for an appetizer. We had a large group and they brought all of our sushi on large community plates without explaining what everything was! Once we sorted it out, there was still some unclaimed sushi, but there didn't appear to be any extra charges on the bill. Other than that little bit of confusion, the service was great. The food is really fresh and you get a nice portion for a good price. And the one non-sushi eater in the group enjoyed his steak.
