Mojacar Vacation Guide
Mojácar is a municipality located in the Spanish province of Almeria, Spain.
It is situated at a distance of 90 kilometers from the city of Almeria.
With a population of about 7,000 inhabitants, Mojácar has more than 3000 hours of sun per year.
The medium yearly temperature is around 20 °C.This manner, winter is practically nonexistent, it passes as a long autumn or spring, with the marine temperature higher than the air temperature.
Mojácar has been habitated by many and varied peoples since antiquity.
Under Greek dominion, the settlement was called Murgis-Akra, from whence came the Latinized Moxacar, the Moorish Muxacra and finally the current name of Mojácar.
In 1987 a law was passed to conserve the Moorish style of the houses and the village for the benefit of the local inhabitants and the visiting tourists. And that is one of the reasons why many of the visitors are under the impression of having arrived on the African continent.
