Modera Hotel Portland (Oregon) Reviews
Trendy boutique hotel in downtown P-Town Aug 29, 2009
Having grown up approximately an hour from Portland, I've never spent time as a 'tourist' there. However, I had the opportunity to spend three nights at the Modera last week. Upon arrival, my partner and I were immediately pleased with the simple and classy decor in the lobby, and in the rooms. It almost had a deco feel about it, which we both enjoyed. The staff were immediately friendly and helpful, and we felt very welcome.
The room was clean and small, as our comfortable king-size bed took up most of the footprint. I was excited to find very cozy bathrobes, FREE wireless, an iPod dock, a small refrigerator, and a safe which fit a 15" MacBook Pro. The windows were able to be opened, but there was also air conditioning. I know we had a nice flat screen TV but we didn't use it. The bathroom was a bit lacking in counter space, but it was clean and lovely. At first our shower was not draining properly. On our way out to get dinner, we informed the front desk, and it was fixed upon our return. A lovely highlight was the restaurant/bar and courtyard area. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. Being August, the temperature in the courtyard was perfect for dinner time. After dark, the gas fire pits were lit, and hotel/restaurant guests enjoyed lounging in chairs around the fire places while sipping after dinner cocktails. Very comfortable, and surprising to find this in the middle of the city! The location was ideal. Two blocks from Park Avenue and PSU campus, and six blocks from the riverfront, there were ample restaurants and places to find good wine/beers. We walked several times from the hotel to Pearl district, and it was a comfortable walk, but not in high heels. If Pearl district is your ideal area, you may want to consider something a bit closer. Overall, I enjoyed my experience very much, and would definitely stay at Modera again. I look forward to my return visit! |
