Mochvara

This is an institution in Zagreb's "alternative" circles. Mocvara has been closed for the past year due to some "disagreement" with the city government but is scheduled to reopen on the 21. 05. 2009. Happy news! It is a Club Associations for the Development of Culture (rough translation of KLUB UDRUŽENJA ZA RAZVOJ KULTURE (URK)) and it presents everything from poetry nights to independent movies to various music nights and concerts. The list of bands that played here over the years is too long but to give you an overview of the place and its music, bands worth mentioning are: UK Subs, Dub Syndicate, Zion Train, The New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, Darkwood Dub, Twilight Circus Dub Soundsystem, Sofa Surfers, Laibach, etc. The music covers a wide selection of "alternative" (whatever that means) sounds and we are happy that a place like this exists in the "age of fancy lounge bars".
