Arches National Park is U.S. National Park located near Moab, Utah noted for its concentration of natural arches—about 2,000 have been located within the park.
Arches National Park preserves over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, like the world-famous Delicate Arch, as well as many other unusual rock formations. In some areas, the forces of nature have exposed millions of years of geologic history. The extraordinary features of the park create a landscape of contrasting colors, landform...

Took a run back up 128 to see the areas I missed on an earlier trip there. Went down Castle road and took pictures of Castle Rock and the towers. It was here that Chevrolet filmed a great commercial. They flew a car and filming crew to the top of the tower and did the commercial. Unfortunately it got quite windy and the helicopter could not fly them down so they spent the night stranded on top of this rock tower.
Along the banks of the Colorado is a large fanc...

After our late evening ride through Arches the day before, we knew a little about the Park and what we wanted to see. We decided to try and get a rather early start, so we ate a light breakfast and checked out of our motel. There was much to experience before we left Moab, and we were anxious to get started.
Arches occupies only a tiny corner, 119 square miles, of the vast Colorado Plateau. But within this relatively small National Park th...

My youngest two daughters and I set out for an adventure, it was time to dissapear from the daily grind, and enjoy some nature. So we packed up everything but the kitchen sink, and headed out to see some national parks, visit some friends, and just get away from it all. Leaving our home in Oregon, we traveled up I-5 to I-84 towards eastern Oregon, then through Idaho; then down into Utah, our favorite from destination from last summer. We really enjoy the beautiful rock form...

After we packed up the car, we headed back to Arches to see "Devil's Garden" which is the area we were in as the sun was setting and we wanted to go back to walk around but we did not have enough time. Shannon had the idea to camp at Arches so we were able to get the last campsite available for tonight. We then went to Moab Adventures on Main Street to meet our guide to go white water rafting down the Colorado River. We had a great time, spectacular view from with...

I don't remember the name of the campground we stayed at, but it was right on the main drag in the middle of Moab. We had no problem finding a campsite with room, despite the fact we got there late last night. We did have a problem getting to sleep, however, because some dolt was doing mechanical work on his truck till well past midnight. This is a place to sleep, not an auto repair facility! When we got up, we cleaned and reorganized the truck, and Tyler and I emptied out the coo...

We woke up early and grabbed the free breakfast from the motel and checked out. We picked up some water and shot glasses and then drove on over to the Arches National Park. It was a inexpensive price to get in and its good for a week. We bypassed the visitors center and instead drove to the first place to hike around.Park Avenue was it. It was impresive. You can walk out to this little area or you can hike down the stairs and into this little valley that it creates. We chose the hike. There w...

Moab to Gunnison
We took the scenic byway drive this morning along the Colorado River and Red Rock Canyons on HWY 128. I really wonder if we will ever get our fill of the rock formations and colors. I drove about 50 miles until we got into the steeper grades and I could feel Dave getting antsy. I guess I don’t have the “feel” yet for using the overdrive or not when in the mountains. LOL He really prefers to drive anyway. L...

It is just beautiful! We left Vegas in the morning and headed toward Utah for some national park-hopping. We stopped at a few monumants and parks: Cedar Breaks National Monument (where is was freezing and I was in shorts!), Grand Staircase NP and Capitol Reef NP. I've posted some pictures of these places. They are all gorgeous and it is amazing how different the landscape is out here...its unlike anywhere else I've ever seen. Our last stop for the night was a place we found along the road cal...

By day 5, I was realizing that I need to get back home to get ready to leave on Friday for Central America. I still had a ton of packing to do, not to mention moving out of my house. My original plan was to leave in the early afternoon, thinking the boys would go on a bike ride in the morning and then we could get going. But when Colin and I got up, DC and CZ were nowhere to be found. We assumed they left in the middle of the night to go get a hotel because the wind ha...
