Dive bar extraordinaire Nov 30, 2007
It was my favorite place to go, to hang out, have some beers, or try to totally forget what-ever I happened to learn that week at the hospital, but make no mistake, it's a total dive. Bras line the back wall, the apolstery is torn up on most of the chairs and benches, grafitti covers the bathroom walls. Goody the owner/bartender is cool, Mike one of the servers, plays in a pipes and drums band and runs around in a kilt, Scott the "doorman/ID checker" is a little odd, but hey. You definitely get treated better if you're a "regular". They serve food (bangers and mash, burgers and fries, chiken fingers), but it's terrible. The selection of beer is pretty good, one of the few places in town that have Guinness and Harp on tap. During the week it's a lot more of the downtown workforce, during the weekend it's more military, but it's not so much of a meat market as the other bars on Granby Street.
They also have music on the weekends, sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's pretty terrible, but after you're drunk, it doesn't really matter! What I really liked about this place (and the reason I kept going back there as opposed to the "trendy" pubs), is that it's laid back, cheap, and I didn't have to worry about some horny sailor hitting on me. Most of the time anyways. Since parking in downtown can be hard to find, park in the Plume Street garage. Unless there's a special event going on, there's no one collecting when you leave after 10~11pm and you end up parking for free ;). Part of the Mid-Atlantic Musings travel blog |

Nov 30, 2007
we ended up, way to overdressed, at our favorite watering hole on Plume Street, Mo and O'Malley's! We had a couple of beers, laughed about our sad attempt to find dancing, and Sam got the musician to gurgle out something like "Happy Birthday to Lulu!"
Still determined to dance, we ended up at The Wave, which was nearly… (the day before) My 23rd Birthday! |
