Standard club, foreign location Apr 30, 2009
MIX provides what one would expect from a typical club back home - cheesy chart fillers mixed with hip-hop tunes, slightly overpriced drinks (for china that is), and many many drunk, friendly, types. MIX's redeeming features are:
*its central location, near 24hr food outlets
*its superiority to Vics, opposite it (due to Vics being predominantly tourist filled, where as MIX was more of a locals place and was cheaper)

If you are looking for a relatively low-key standard night of clubbing in Beijing, MIX hits the spot.

For those looking for:
* Ex-pats - try Tun just off San Li Tun main bar stretch
* Bling - try Bling, which amply lives up to its name with models, oligarchs and 'sexy bunnies' and a showy gold mirror decor to match
* Student low key - try La Bamba for drinks in Wu Dao Ku followed by the local haunt next door - Propaganda, a minuscule club with potent cocktails, great drinks deals/ladies nights etc
*Overpriced poseur appeal - Susie Wongs, high entrance fee but the clientèle rate themselves.

I recently went to Club Mix and was surprised to hear music you would normally hear in the US, rap, hiphop, some r&b. However the music was repetitive and I probably heard all of Nick Cannon's songs. It cost us around 200 RMB per person to get a seat at a table while paying roughly 2000 RMB for a big bottle of whiskey to drink with red tea and ice. The service was decent. The club is pretty dead before 11 and only a couple people are on the dance floor so I recommend going after 11:30. It gets way too crowded as it gets later. The amount of sweat and stench on the dance floor is comparable to the Great Wall, some people really don't know to use deodorant. I prefer going to the club across the street, "VICS". The music and drinks are a lot better and it isn't as crowded.

A really westernized club located next to an old stadium. The interior is upscale and indistinguishable from a nice club in Los Angeles. There are a few large dancefloors and comfy lounge areas. Seems like a very popular place with both locals and foreigners alike.

I used to come here a lot, before we found a smaller club close to Peking U. where we got chummy with the owners. Next door should have been Vics, which is also popular... Zhang Zhiyi parties here when she's in Beijing!

When Lea protested that we had booked for a 'mixed' dorm, as the website said, she was told that this meant a mixed nationality dorm!! Does that mean, as it suggests, that there are hostels in China that will not let some nationalities stay together?? Crazy, but a private room was still quite cheap… Us, Tianamen Square, The Forbidden City and our Communist friends! By John.

…rice or millet with sweet filling first appeared in the Yuan Dynasty, and were well received by the imperial families in the Ming Dynasty. Now it is one of Beijing's snacks loved by local people.
