Mitsu Kafé & Sushi Oslo Reviews
Great sushi at a good price Feb 11, 2012
Mitsu is located at the edge of the city centre. It´s a small place with two rooms. The front room can get a bit busy since a lot of people stop by to pick up their take away, so we chose the inner room. Despite the lack of decoration (it looks like a cheap café with posters of Japan on the walls) the atmosphere is quite good. The place hasn’t changed in 10 years and that goes for the interior as well. It´s not worn down, just outdated.
The owner is a Japanes guy named Mitsumura. He enjoys great respect among sushi lovers. You can really taste that Mitsu´s sushi is made by a Japanese. Mitsumura is married to a Philipino who also works there. Her mood is like a roller coaster, but that adds to the charm of the place. Don´t let her mood scare you away. Mitsu is a typical small family business.
Mitsu offers warm Asian dishes as well as sushi (sashimi, nigeri and maki). If you don´t care for Asian food they also have baguettes, which are very popular since they are big, tasty and cheap. If you are not familiar with Asian food you can see the different dishes displayed in a class cabinet in the front room.
I ordered a miso soup while I was waiting for my friend. Then we both ordered a medium sushi menu. The sushi was excellent. It was of a nice size and had the right amount of wasabi between the fish and rice.
Mitsu is popular among all nationalities. A reason for this may be that the ingredients are of high quality, the turn over high and the food always fresh. To me it´s a very good sign that the employees at the Japanese Embassy go there for the sushi.
I can highly recommend Mitsu for those who want to enjoy excellent sushi at a reasonable price and are not concerned about the atmosphere.
