We are "on the road again". Plan to travel the perimeter of the US this time out. Deep South to East Coast, New England states and some of Canada.

After saying our goodbyes we got in our car a drove for about an hour and decided to stop in Gulfport for the night. Another Best Western.
This is a big facility. Three levels, elevators, even a night club attached to the front. And when we pulled in at nearly 10p.m. the place was jumping and rocking and the people were coming and going and the noise level was up there.
We checked at the desk for a room and they gave us two choices. On the first floor quite near the club o...

We had completed many underways on the ship summer of 2005 getting ready for the next cruise we had to do for our next mission, Unfortunately Hurricane Katrina happened when we were supposed to be home with our families and we headed down south, picking up many many 'passengers' along the way to aide in our Humanitarian Mission.
One of those days we were just 'floating around' and small boats were inbound to us with Mexican Marines. After they were all on board, we fe...

Since I grew up in Biloxi, Ms. and all my family still live there, I thought I would post some before and after pics of Hurricane Katrina's devastation...Everything I grew up with and loved is now gone, including my childhood home and the homes of much of my family...We had to move away because there's not much left.

The Gulf Coast of Mississippi suffered massive damage from the impact of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005, leaving 236 people dead, 67 missing, and an estimated $125 Billion in damages.
A piece of me will always remain in the French Quarter in New Orleans. From the moment I stepped foot on the first cobblestone I fell in love or at least enamored with all that I saw. When Katrina hit, my heart dropped at the thought of the damage and destruction to my beloved city. The...

By morning, it was still raining. Willia made us waffles and bacon for breakfast and we all ate at the long dinner table under a portrait of her dead great uncle. She told us about the time MTV used her house as a filming location for some show where a bunch of beautiful young people get sequestered in a haunted mansion, and they see who can last the longest. Since "Desert Plantation" didn't have that old Louisiana Francophone ring to it, MTV temporarily dubbed her house "LaGuerre Plantation"...

It finally happened. Made it to Mississippi and even crossed the Mississippi into Mississippi! Wow! I have to be honest with you; I didn’t give Mississippi the love it deserves. Originally we were going to spend more time there, but we were in the NW corner and there wasn’t a lot to do, so we are going back next year sometime when we visit Louisiana. I have heard Biloxi and Montgomery are great places to visit!
I did spend about 4 hours there when we...

Although many areas are still devastated from the Hurricane, I had a phenomenal trip through New Orleans, Biloxi, back over to Cajun Country (Lafayette and environs) in 2007. One should get a stamp in thier passport for this unique microculture. Great food Great people and Great scenery!

Arrived to visit to great friends that moved to Leaf, MS and bought this little farm and house after theirs in Gulport, MS was completely destroyed during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.The farmhouse was built back in the early 1900s on a different piece of property and served as the hotel for Leaf during it's era as a logging and lumber town. My friends are restoring the house on the inside and have chosen to leave the outside in it's rustic condition. The inside, however, is filled w...

November opened with me in a dumpy RV park in Texarkana, AK. so I quickly packed up and moved down to Shreveport, LA. This ride took me on secondary roads with little traffic except for big heavy gravel trucks. From Shreveport, I connected up with I 20 and drove east to Vicksburg, MS and found the Elks Lodge with no problem. Parked behind the pool building and settled in. I was surprised that the lodge was closed in the evening which surprised me.
Vicksburg sits right on the bluffs ...
