Mission Beach Vacation Guide
Mission Beach is a small town situated in between Cairns and Townsville, of the A1 near El Arish. The town is actually made up of four villages: Bingil Bay, Mission Beach Wongaling Beach and South Mission Beach.
The area is known for the population of Cassowaries, which are flightless birds. On the way to the town signs warn to watch out for crossing Cassowaries, as accidents are one of the main threat to them. The last part of the road into town is a scenic drive through the wooded hills.
There are several National Parks in the areas, some in places where it's possible to spot Cassowaries when lucky.
Cyclone Larry, which passed the area in March 2006 did some major damage to the properties and wildlife.
