Specialized Souvenir Shop in Malioboro Yogyakarta Sep 11, 2011
Mirota Batik is a local souvenir shop in the heart of Malioboro in Yogyakarta. It is a 3 level building, and always crowded with shoppers (and also the warning sign of pocket-picks / thieves around). Heaps of stuff you can find here : art craft (wood / silver), batik clothing, bags or laptop covers in batik motif, house decorations, shoes / sandals, hats, mats, ash tray, aromatic scent oil, incense, and tea leaves, and snacks, and I'm sure I still miss a lot of stuff I havn't recalled to mention. They are all in fixed reasonable price. One of the snacks I bought was bakpia 'Raminten', (with 3 flavors : chocolate, green bean, and cheese). It is in smaller pack compared to the other brand, costs Rp 13000 / box, buying all 3 flavors will cost you almost the same with one flavor from the famous brand like 'Bakpia 75'. They also have huge varieties of crackers. The shop also provides free city map which is quite useful.

cabaret show every weekend Oct 11, 2011
Eventho it isnt as good as the cabaret in thailand, it's good to watch those shemales imitating celebrities. Go to the third floor, it's a restaurant with the big stage for the cabaret :) quite entertaining

Haggle-free place Dec 11, 2008
Mirota Batik is a shop located at the very end of Malioboro Street in Yogyakarta.

Reasons why it's worth to come there:

1. You can concentrate to see and take picture along Malioboro Street, took some steet vendor's snacks or just to interact with the people there, not distracted to buy some traditional stuffs.

2. No bargain involved, all are price tagged.

3. Wander around a air-con cool with aromatic incence smell

4. Enjoy the live performance of traditional musician playing Javanese songs.

5. You'll be surprised of how many cute and new things you can find in one shop.

6. Allow you to swipe some cards if you are intended to buy a huge-bulky-teak funiture~

Batik and Handicraft Center Dec 06, 2008
It is a highly recommended place for you to shop original Batik, handicraft, souvenirs, etc from Yogyakarta where you don't need to bargain. The price is reasonable with good quality.

It is a big old family-owned shop located at the famous street of Malioboro. Once you get in there, you will feel the warm of Javanese traditional athmosphere, and you will be entertained by traditional Javanese live music. More, you will be get friendly greetings with the staff dressed in traditional Javanese clothes.

You almost can find any souvenirs you need from Yogyakarta to bring home. When you are too lazy or not good in bargaining, it is a highly recommended place for you to shop.
