Mirogoj Cemetery Zagreb Reviews
Mirogoj Cemetery Aug 14, 2010
Mirogoj is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Europe. Created in 1876, it is a sight to behold with its beautiful, overgrown arcades where famous Croatians are burried.
The main building was designed by architect Hermann Bollé. The church, arcades and copulas were built in a later stage.
The whole thing has a feeling of neglect, but in a nice way. Call it beautiful decay. Most of the wrought iron lamps in the arcades have almost totally rusted away. Yet there is so much to discover. Beautiful mosaics, great statues and one of the most creepiest tombstones I have ever seen in my life.
You can reach Miragoj from Kaptol Square by taking bus 106. The ride only takes about 15 minutes.
