El Mirador del Río
Municipio de Haría, Lanzarote - February 25, 2008 One of the most spectacular views in Lanzarote. Definitely worth the four-and-a-half euro admission fee! We had been driving all over the island most of the day and decided to continue up to the far end of the island where I'd heard there was a nice lookout post with a spectacular of neighboring islands called the Chinijo Archipelago: La Graciosa, the nearest, Montaña Clara and Alegranza (which is the Canary Island closest to the European Continent). The lookout post is one of 7 cultural, artistic and touristic attractions operated by the island's government. It wasn't hard to find at all, once we got to the general vicinity there were plenty of road signs to lead you there. Mirador del Río is another attraction designed by Cesar Manrique and the architecture is really nice, like the other places we've visited it blends perfectly with the surrounding landscape. This time the architect designed the area so that the amazing view is saved as a final surprise once you pass the main amphitheater entrance and enter the building itself. It is breathtaking. I could have stood there for hours and looked down on the Atlantic and the neighboring islands 80 meters below. Aside from that, the building in itself is a fantastic place to explore. If you make it to Lanzarote sometime, drive to this end of the island and see this view. Part of the LANZAROTE AND FUERTEVENTURA travel blog |
