Minneriya-Giritale Sanctuary Polonnaruwa Reviews
Heaps of Elephants!! Aug 13, 2012
If you're visiting Polonnaruwa and into wild animals, safari at Minneriya is really a must-do.
I went there on a safari tour organized by Samudra guesthouse, and it costed me 40 dollars for jeep ride and entrance fee for the sanctuary.
You can also hire a jeep in town but if you are alone and want to reduce the cost, tour is a great option.
The tour departed at 2pm and arrived there at about 3pm, and we stayed there until when the gate closed at 6:30pm, and I could see hundreds of wild elephants, jackals, wild buffalos, eagles, and some monkeys.
Our jeep was too close to a group of elephants and even two of them threatened us and chased us for a bit! (Scary) But it was really great that I could see such a big numbers of elephants at once.
I felt it was pricey at first but it was definitely the best part of my travel in Sri Lanka!! Even if you are on budget travel, I'd really really recommend you to go. You will never get disappointed.
