Worse service in the world Feb 10, 2010
No, not an exaggeration- I've stayed in plenty of hotels and hostels in all different classes all over the world, including in some pretty remote corners- and this is by far the worse place I've seen, as well as the creepiest. It charged the local equivalent of 5-star prices, and delivered service worse than a no-star peasant homestay in a developing country. To put it mildly, this place is a rip-off, in stronger language, it's a scam and a half.

We arrived in the low season, and the day started off bad (Huanlong closed due to snow in early Nov), and became the pits when we arrived at this so-claimed 5-star establishment. Despite their seeing a group of slightly-built young women struggling with luggage, the hotel's porters waltzed right past us, wheeling around plants and various sundry on luggage trolleys.

Things worsened inside the cavernous, freezing cold lobby, adorned with- of all things- a massive bronze statue of Mao Zedong (we should've taken the hint and left).

Reception was okay, but again, despite the hotel being practically empty (I'm quite confident that we were the only guests on that day), we were given rooms about a ten-minute walk through this bitterly cold massive mausoleum. The thermometer continued to drop in the rooms- only heated by portable heaters after calls to reception. No kettle- just s strange little dispenser that resembled a mini version of office water coolers- that dribbled lukewarm water- so we couldn't even feed ourselves with pre-purchased instant noodles. We tried to obtain room service- no, that wasn't available either, because "it's too cold" (that was the answer given to us, verbatim).

Yes, it is the low season- but all the more reason that staff should not be too busy to look after their only five guests properly. Yes, it is a small village in a developing country- but I've been to plenty of those and stayed in places which may be smaller and even more basic, but they charged one-tenth of the price of the Minjiangyuan and service was at least warm and friendly, where staff tried their best with what they have. The Minjiangyuan had the nerve to charge a very similar price to Sheraton Jiuzhaigou, when they don't even live up to 2-star standards.

Stay away- you're better off saving your money and staying in some of the 2 or 3-star places around- there are plenty about.

Wow. That doesn't sound too good at all! Definitely a place to give a miss!
