Sunset markets by the beach Aug 26, 2013
Imagine a large city in which 10 per cent of the population comes each week to a marketplace. Attracting up to 10,000 people a night, Mindil markets offers a wide range of food and craft stalls, entertainment and of course one of the best and most reliable sunsets in the world over Darwin Harbour. The market operates on Thursday and Sunday nights during the dry season from late April to late October. Sunday night is more popular with locals who come down with chairs, tables, rugs and drinks in droves to enjoy the food, sunset and catching up with friends. Great atmosphere with food to suit any palate. The markets also offer up a variety of entertainment from magicians to mimes, bands, solo singers, whipcrackers, artists etc. Reasonable prices - expect to pay between $10 -$20 depending on your appetite. Highly recommended are the smoothies from the 'Naturally Yum' stand - to see these mostly Thai girls serve multiple customers and keep track of orders is fantastic. Dont forget Kens Crepes also or the Road Kill Cafe for those who want to try some native tucker. Highly recommended
