6 August:Caught the bus this morning to visit the Minas do Passagem, now a tourist venue showing the insides of an old gold mine that operated from 1719 to 1985!  We took a little cable car 350m into the mine until we were about 120m underground and then had a guided tour of a few of the tunnels.  The guide spoke English, but not an awful lot of information was given, apart that about 35 tonnes of gold were taken out of here during the mine´s life.  There is a small shrine to ...

São Jao del Rei. was the first colonial gold mining town in the state of Minias Geras that we decided to visit. At every stop on the 6 hour bus journey, I´d turn to someone and ask Àqui São Jao del Rei?´ in my best Portuguese accent. Brasil has truly taken my heart captive.  The sights, smells, and sounds of the busy city of Belo Horizonte seem so familiar now.  How does one begin to put down on paper all the emotions experienced in a short 3 week visit? The best party that you can ever go in your life is called: CARNAVAL. This famous party is usually celebrate in february.It´s 4 days party, and depending the city you are,It´s impossible to sleep. The bests cities to visit in Carnaval are Salvador and then Rio de Janeiro. But all over Brasil people are celebrating, others towns that the party is good are Ouro Preto and Diamantina. I can guarantee you´ll have the time of your life!

As usual I went to Sao Sebastiao do Paraiso this Christmas in order to celebrate it with my family and my relatives of my mother's side.

Last night we took the night bus, 10 hour journey, from Cabo Frio to Belo Horizonte. We forgot to read beyond the first sentence of the LP guide to see that beyond the bus station there is nothing to do here. Took the opportunity to get some money out, eat our first meal of the day at about 2pm and then burst a big blister on my left foot. Now I can´t walk comfortably on either!We did go to watch a couple of football games on TV in a bar and grab a very nice dinner in a local shopping mall, ...

i arrived in ouro preto after an overnight bus from vitoria at 5 a.m.! and it rained like mad, so i wasn't sure what do to, if i should stay in the rodoviaria until the sun arrives or looking for the hostel in the rain and in the dark, well there wasn't really a possibility to sit on the upper floor of that rodoviaria so i thought i'll i have a look for the hostel, in the guide it said that it be quite close, i asked a taxi driver if it's far, he said it's impossible to walk there and convinc...
