This art museum is located pretty much in central Zagreb, and houses several thousand items of art. There are some very famous artists on show here too, such as Canaletto, Van Dyck, Goya and Degas. The range of works are very ambitious too, from the masters of Europe to pieces that are from afar as India, China and the far parts of Asia. Despite the very impressive credentials of this place, there wasn’t something right about the place. The museum’s pieces were solely acquired by one Croatian benefactor, Mimara. And yet how he acquired all of these pieces seems to be a little undocumented. The confusion that seems to surround the acquisitions can still be felt in the museum. No one was there throughout my visit apart from one other person, and the collections don’t seem to have a proper sense of cohesion and lack the ability to inspire the viewer. It’s worth going to this place if you have a bit of free time (like I did), but don’t feel upset if you miss this place either!
