Claimed to be the largest balete tree in Asia Nov 14, 2012
This Balete tree (part of the Ficus genus and related to the Banyan tree) is also called the "Millenium Tree" and is found in Barangay Quirino, Maria Aurora, Aurora province (the town prior to Baler). It is claimed to be the largest of its kind in Asia. It is estimated to be about 600+ years old and 200 feet tall. The roots (which are in the air) are easily 30 feet to 50 feet in diameter.

Because of its size and age, it has become a tourist attraction. One can walk past the roots to enter the center, which easily accommodates a few people. Local children often climb the roots inside.

Hopefully the visitors help in the upkeep of this tree by avoiding littering inside. There is even a cutout background where one can stick his/her face for photos but I think that is already carrying being a tourist too far.
