...Kyle announces loudly as we enter the walkway to the 777 that will take us away from this land where we have been thoroughly spoiled for the last three weeks. Conveniently, we were escorted through security from curbside directly to gate 22, saving us more than an hour in waiting lines (we’ve been joking all through the trip about how to become an Emirati VIP) and now we finally find ourselves waiting to board the plane…in a que with other “travelers with small children. ...

Aight I guess its time for me to play a bit of catch up on this blog thing. I just finished my first week of classes so that has been taking up most of my time. To decide which classes I wanted to take the international school lets us sit in on as many classes as we wish to for the first week and then finalize registration the following week. They offer a bunch of really interesting courses, but in the end I have decided to continue my Hebrew, take a social history course, terrorism and re...

Departed for home.
I didn't list every place I visited in Israel. That would be to hard to
remember every one, plus dates.
40 days allowed for allot of traveling. I
will however mention a few key places I got to go to; Jerusalem, the
Sea of Galilee, Masada, Tel Aviv, Jappa, the Dead Sea and of course,
many evenings in Ashdod.

Its about 4AM and i'm excited as I see early morning Beirut glide past my window below me as the BA Boeing comes in to land. Although I have never been here before, I instantly recognise and name areas of the city by linking them to events and chronicles as recounted by the journalist Robert Fisk through his many reports and books about this front-line city and its tragic gradual destruction.
Once out of the airport I walk about 1km to the highway and wave down a classic Merc...

Note to future travelers to Israel, going to Haifa is TOTALLY worth a side trip up. There are directions in English so it's not too hard to figure out. It's a town on a big hill but the beach is just gorgeous. The train literally lets you off right in front of the beach and as far as the beach goes, dress (or lack thereof) is not an issue (not so with the rest of Haifa I was soon to find out). I figured Haifa = beachy = shorts and flowy breezy flimsy top and flip flo...

I am a planner. I love to read travel books and figure out ahead of time all the places I want to go...usually more places than I have time to see. So I generally have a good I idea of what I am most looking forward too. Before I ever get to a place I sort of have favorites pre-set. Of course most of the time the world teaches me a lesson about what I really love by showing me something I wasn't expecting that turns out to be better than what I was expecting. Suc...

Mizra is a 'kibbutz' which translates from Hebrew as 'grouping' its a sort of comunist settelment (not in s Stalin kind of way!) i cant be bothered to explain google it or something! anyway this is where i grew up and lived until i was 14. its an amazing place to grow up cause you grow up with the children who were born in your year and you become a group, in more than way school does. up until about 20 years ago children would all sleep away from home together in a 'childrens house' obviousl...

My work often takes me to the beautiful nation of Qatar, and many surrounding nations. Although I've made this journey many times, I'll combine my blog into one specific time period.

After spending some time in the big city of Tehran, I headed off with my Iranian companion to the south. In particular, Maryam suggested we check out the island of Qeshm, via the city of Bandar Abbas. After a full day exploring the island, our plan was to return to Bandar Abbas to catch the night plane to Shiraz.
So we spent the day driving around the island and seeing many interesting sights. Our plane was at 8:10 pm, so we figured, catch the 35 minute speedboat ride ...
