So, my army service started in the 14th of December 2004, It was one of the coldest winters Israel has seen in 20 years. I came to the drafting unit accompanied by my parents, sister and my boyfriend at the time, I said goodbye and they took us on a bus to another section of the base to get uniforms, vaccines and all necessary equipment to start our two years in the service. I was one of the unlucky ones who had to do kitchen duty while waiting for everybody to finish the process and to be...

Leaving Yemen Leaving Yemen was sad for me.  Sanaa had been my home for 5 weeks.  I've never been to a school that's been so cool.  Where in the world would you find your teacher wearing a gun holster (with bullet holders) to class? I also loved the climate in Sanaa ... at about 7000 feet the temperature was always perfect ... sometimes a bit warm in the sun by never oppressive. I have grown very attached to my friends from Holland, South Africa, Finland, France and the USA....

A 2 hour debate: Why are you here? Why should we let you into Israel?

Some of you may have heard of the Hezbollah crisis: I was there in the midst! Many people hear about the turmoil in Israel, however, most people rarely hear of the hospitality of the people or of their amazing generosity. I experienced the Hezbollah crisis as well as the turmoil between the Arabs and the Jews as I traveled through uncharted territory and heard the story from the people who live it out on a daily basis. It is something that will forever be etched upon my mind.

Dubai - the land that defies nature

EMIRATES airlines is the seventh largest ailine in the world in terms of interanational passager carriage. It is currently the largest airline in the middle east and at the rate of it's current growth will soon be competing with larger international carriers for largest worl airline. For 10 years I have flown Emirates because of the service and on time departures. The ambiance and leg room per passager and individualized entertainment, can not be measured agains any other airline. As always ...

I made my flight! So I have arrived in Hamburg from Rome just in time but I only have less than two hours to catch my other flight to Manila. It's not a connecting flight so I still have to check-in again but first I have to get my other baggage stocked in the airport for 4 days. Phydie and I had to really run from terminal two of Hamburg airport to terminal one and that was really not easy with our bags and my heavy baggage! Anyway, I didn't miss my flight and I'm off to Manil...

Many people ask me about what I want to do in my life.  As I am sure many of you are also asked.  About a month ago I watched a movie called The Bucket List, which most have probably seen.  It was definitly a "B" movie, but it got my friend Preston (PostCard on TB) and me thinking as to what we would write on our own Bucket List.  The idea anamored us enough to start writing our own.  I set the stipulation that it could only be 50 items or less due to the fact if you ...

Once you get past the numerous girls in customs asking questions who oddly try to convince you that you dont want to be here and even suggesting that my friend who invited me over wouldn't want to see me.... it is easy to see how misunderstood Israel really is. Tel Aviv is just like any other western city.   In the daylight, you can truly see why some Israeli's call Tel Aviv, California Israel due to the spectacular beaches and promenades. I loved my time there so much that I kept pop...

Dune Bashing in Dubai (oct 2006)
posted by:
May 14, 2007 - May 15, 2007
"Dune Bashing" is basically when you have someone pick you up in an SUV..you drive out pretty far to get to the desert area. The driver then deflates the tires on the SUV a little bit because otherwise you'll roll over on a dune. It is really crazy and kinda scary..you go up dunes not knowing whats on the other side cuz the wind constantly changes them..and you pretty much slide down the other side completely sideways..its so fun! You feel like you're going to flip over the entire time....

First Day - Sede Boqer, Mitzpe Ramon and the way to the Dead Sea

Aug 25, 2006 - Aug 26, 2006
On the first day it was around 35 degrees celsius, so we waited till noon to do our shopping of food and drinks for the weekend (taking around 6 litres of water per person). We drove all the way from Tel-Aviv to Sede Boqer, something like 2.5 hours, through the city of Beer-Sheva and other small farmer towns. Our first stop was the graves of the first Israel Prime Minister - David Ben Gurion. He was a big fan of the desert and he dwelled there after he stopped being a prime minister in Isra...

I didn't know about this site when I actually went to Israel so I am back tracking and giving some of the highlights of my trip...in retrospect.      I, along with my youth group from my synagogue, stayed in Ashqelon for the first part of the trip in our rabbi's house. It was a beautiful house with a nice deck...and barely any hot water :). It's not that it DIDN'T have hot water, it's just that the heater was on a timer so you had to set it for wh...
