Middelburg Vacation Guide

Middelburg is a real great city with much history. It lies in "zeeland" a province of the Netherlands. It is officially the capital of the province. It is not very easy to get to, for it is almost surrounded by water. With car you can get there, by train you can but it rides only from rotterdam and once every hour.

Middelburg has a great amount of historic buildings in the city. The "lange Jan" the church tower you can see from far, the old monaestry, and the roosevelt academy building, build in the 17th century. It also kept much traditions such as the 'ringsteken'an old custom where people in historic outfits with horses try to stick a spear into a ring above, always a great event to see.

A less nice thing about Middelburg is that is are actually two city's. In the summer it is like being in a big tourist attraction, the whole city is completeley filled with especially german tourist. In winter it is quite empty and a very peacefull city. As it is quite close to the sea, it's good to combine with a day on the beach.
