Great country music!!! May 10, 2008
Mickey Gilley, born in Natchez, Mississippi back in 1936 grew up near his two cousins, Jerry Lee Lewis of country recording fame and Jimmy Swaggart of television ministry fame. He too learned to play piano young but didn’t make into show business as quickly. He moved to Texas and worked in construction during the day and played the local clubs, singing and playing at night. Finally in 1971 he and a business partner opened “Gilley’s”, the world’s largest honky-tonk. And as the eighties came on his fame did too and when the Urban Cowboy came out he hit is stride with more and more hits recordings. Today he performs at this own theater in Branson and draws nice crowds to all of his shows. His style is smooth and romantic, but he can also do the good fast up-tempo tune as well. If you like country music, this is a very good show!
