Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Kisoro Reviews
In the Northern Slopes of Uganda's Virunga Volcanoes Dec 29, 2010
As the name suggests, this is a gorilla park. Most of the park is within the Virunga National Park, which is in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is at the south western most corner, only 15 kilometers from Kisoro. The park's primary attraction is mountain gorillas. Seeing as they are an endangered species, they have become a hot selling point for countries that harbor them. As indicated in the Bwindi review, half the world's mountain gorillas are in Uganda.
Besides the gorillas, the park boasts of golden monkeys that live in the higher altitude.
The mountain climber can also engage in a hike to the summit of one of the three volcanoes. This is recommended only if you are in good physical shape as the 1800m ascent through the afromontane vegetation is extremely challenging. At the top is the Muhuvura ranges, the prize for those that make it there. I confess it took us 2 days to get there (and I was still in my prime with all the energy in me). A memory to keep for all times.
PS: Why leave for tomorrow what you can accomplish today?
