Meyer Werft Papenburg Reviews
See how cruise ships are build Jul 08, 2009
If you're interested in cruise ships and you stay in the area of Papenburg the visit of the Meyer Werft (shipyard) is a must. Several of the cruise ships which sail the seas are built here. They work for Celebrity Cruise Line, AIDA Cruise Line, P & O, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line to name just a few.
Since the mid 80s, nearly 200 years after its foundation, the Meyer Werft is building cruise ships. The "Homeric" (now: "Westerdam") was the first one and many more followed.
Every year, about 300,000 tourists come to Meyer Werft to see on site how state-of-the-art shipbuilding works. Tourists are particularly captivated by the huge luxury cruise ships and the complex production line at the shipyard.
In cooperation with the Papenburg Tourism Ltd. a Visitors Centre is operated to provide a detailed insight into the production process at the yard by means of exhibits, videos, a mock-up cabin, etc.
And every time a ship is conveyed down the river Ems, large crowds are attracted to witness this spectacular event. The next one will be on November 13, 2010 when the newest ship for Disney Cruise Line, the "Disney Dream", will leave Papenburg to sail the world.
If you're interested please book a guided tour at the Papenburg Tourism Ltd. Since it's not possible to go there by your own. Please contact:
