Meyer Theatre Green Bay Reviews
Meyer Theatre - a Fox Theater Jan 18, 2010
Originally opened on Valentine's day in 1930, this beautiful theater was one of the many elaborate Fox Theaters that popped up all across America during the 20's and 30's.
After changing hands a number of times over the next several decades, this building was embraced by the community when 7 million dollars was raised to restore it to it's original splendor.
The interior was designed to look like an 18th Century Spanish Courtyard at dusk. It's ceiling is midnight blue complete with clouds. Fiber Optics were installed in the ceiling to represent a nighttime starry sky. The state is adorned with gold leaf columns, intricate plastered details, and statues that were popular at the time of construction.
The one drawback of this theater.... it currently offers no tours. Visitors must catch the ticket office by chance during the day in order to gain access without seeing a show there.
*Hint: call this theater and ask for Matt - the general manager. If you are visiting from out of town he may accommodate your request to see the stage.
