Metropolitan Transit System Reviews

Especially if you're only staying a few days, this option will save you beau coup bucks on rentals, unless you're dead-set on driving yourself around. I would highly recommend (after having the taxi experience) taking the bus from the San Diego International Airport (Route 992) to downtown to get to The Transit Store. Basic fares are (as of 09/01/07) $1.75, and children under 5 are free. (Seniors are $1.00) Monthly passes are $60. (NOTE: If you're using fares, even if you get a transfer slip, you still have to pay $0.50 for the transfer route.) My biggest recomendation would be to use the Day-Tripper passes, purchased at The Transit Store. A 3-day pass costs $12 and allows unlimited rides & transfers on any route, without having to pay anything extra. Another fun ride (and much quicker than the busses--no traffic!) is the San Diego Trolley to downtown from Oldtown and the monorail transit that covers most of the same routes as the busses. Check for your own itinteraries, however. The rail will stop at all the major bus transfer terminals, of which you have to walk down to the bus terminal platform. Definitely the way to go if at all possible. The public transit system will take you just about anywhere you want to go in the San Diego area, including Tiajuana, 20 minutes away.
